A GOSPEL MUSIC MINISTER || Who is he? A must read

A gospel artiste is someone who preaches the word of God through singing songs. They are Ministers of God in Music Industry. They are those who proclaim the word of God to the masses through the inspiration they got from God through singing of songs.

When someone is depressed, stressed or is in grief listening to music (Gospel) can be a great solution. 

Berthold Auerbach (1812-1882) wrote:

Music washes away from the soul the dust of everyday life.

Music generally can have so much impact in the lives of Humans. But let’s focus on Gospel music as the way of reaching/witnessing to people. People always listen to sermons in churches and on various occasions. There are also sermons and messages from God through gospel music.

Then WHAT IS MUSIC?

Ludwig Van Beethoven defines music as 

a higher revelation than all wisdom and philosophy. Music is the electrical soil in which the spirit lives, thinks and invents.

Music is listened in everyday life and everywhere; in schools, offices, in cars, in the market, in churches, every where you can think of.

Music can heal, can change some ones thought and can transform the life of a listener.

Billy Joel wrote: 

I think music in itself is healing. It’s an explosive expression of humanity. It’s something we are all touched by. No matter what culture (Religion) we’re from, everyone loves music.

If I can understand the last sentence of the words of Billy above, it means Music has the ability to witness everyone regardless of his/her religion or culture.

Missionaries in those days used songs as a way of witnessing to unbelievers, songs also captures the attention of people. It also brings people near to the infinite.

Thomas Carlyle (1795-1881) said that: 

Music is well said to be the speech of angels; infect, nothing among the utterances allowed to man is felt to be so divine. It brings us near to the infinite.

Honestly good music makes a lot of changes to the human heart and soul. When we are in a particular problem we loved to sing or listen to songs that rhyme with that our problem. When the lyrics are good we get some words of encouragement in it.

Arnold Bennett (1867-1931) wrote: 

The music language is a language which only the soul alone understands, but which the soul can never translate.

Also Henry Ward Beecher (1813-1887) an American congregational clergyman, religious writer and reformer wrote:

music cleanses the understanding: inspires it, and lifts it onto a realm which it would not reach if it were left to itself.

A gospel music minister should focus on the impact his songs/lyrics does to his listeners. He should know whether his lyrics are:

•  Really changing some situations of his listeners.
•  He should be able to know whether his listeners really understand the message he is trying to pass across.
• Are the lyrics of the song capable of witnessing to someone or not.
• Are the lyrics inspired by God or flesh? ETC.

Finding the answer to the above questions will help you in the ministry. Understanding the audience you’re trying to pass the message across will really help you. That will help you in approaching them through your lyrics.

Music can change the world because it can change people.

When your songs change people automatically you’re changing the world.

Write a good and God inspired lyrics, let it be clearly voiced out through your songs. It will change people and brings them closer to Christ.
